What is ecommerce hosting?

Ecommerce hosting is web hosting used to run an online store, usually on WordPress with WooCommerce. The right plan depends on your storage, visits and backups, and on what the price becomes after the first term. This site compares hosts on those points, using each host's public plan data and linked sources.

InMotion's price is for a 1-month term, with a first month at $16.49. Its longer terms start lower. Our Bluehost review is not in the table because we have recorded only its 36-month prices, not a monthly price. See the full list of reviews.

Side-by-side comparisons

What to look for in web hosting for ecommerce

Storage and visits

Start with how much space your product images and files need, and how many visits you expect. Entry plans in our data list from 25 GB to 100 GB of storage, and each host defines visits differently or does not state them. Read the limits section of each review.

Backups and staging

A store changes every day, so look at how long a host keeps backups and whether it includes a staging site to test changes. Kinsta lists 14 days backup retention, and WP Engine lists backups kept for no less than 30 and no longer than 60 days.

Ecommerce WordPress hosting and other platforms

The hosts here sell hosting for WordPress and WooCommerce stores. Hosted platforms such as Shopify include hosting in their plans, so they are outside what we compare. If you run WooCommerce, see our WooCommerce hosting page.

What ecommerce site hosting costs after the first term

Common questions

What is the best ecommerce hosting?

We have not graded or ranked hosts yet, so we do not name one. Instead we compare the figures that matter for a store, with a source link on each. Start with our best ecommerce hosting page, then read the reviews of the hosts that fit your store's size and budget.

How much does ecommerce hosting cost?

Among the hosts we have recorded, billed-monthly entry plans list from $14 a month at Cloudways to $35 a month at Kinsta and WP Engine. Longer prepaid terms often start lower and rise at renewal, so compare the price after the first term as well.

Do I need special hosting for a WooCommerce store?

Not always, but a store needs enough storage, a visit allowance that fits its traffic, and reliable backups. Some hosts label plans as WooCommerce hosting and others sell general WordPress hosting. Compare the limits instead of the label, and see our WooCommerce hosting page for the figures we have recorded.
